| History: | The reservoir was built between 1901 and 1905 by pioneer and railroader Alexander T. Sullenberger, who owned the land and wished to provide irrigation for his ranch. The reservoir was originally 36 acres in size. In the early 1970's, a plat was filed with Archuleta County by the Navajo Trails Corporation, naming the reservoir, Lake Pagosa. In the mid-1980's, the Fairfield Resorts Company acquired the property, enlarged the reservoir to 106 acres, and continued to market the name as Lake Pagosa within the development of Pagosa Lakes. Other documents referred to the body of water as the Linn and Clark Reservoir. In 1990, the Board on Geographic Names (BGN) was asked by the Sullenberger family to restore the original name, but the proposal was rejected citing the objections of the County government and the Colorado State Names Board. |
