History: | In 1916 the BGN approved the name Gannett Peak for the highest point on Mount Massive. The name was published on a USGS topographic map in 1921. However, citing subsequent objections, including a House Joint Resolution, the BGN decided in 1922 to vacate the decision. The name Gannett Peak was applied to a peak in Wyoming instead. |
